Dr. Joshua Cooper D.C.
Dr. Josh grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii with a nurse mother and psychiatrist father, so healing and the mind/body connection has always been in his blood. On Oahu, he enjoyed ocean swimming, yoga, dancing and being active outdoors. Dr. Josh received a BA in psychology from UW, then became fascinated with bodywork and started massage school, since he wanted to blend the mental component with the physical dimension. For over a decade he did deep tissue massage and trigger-point therapy before deciding to attend the University of Western States, in Oregon to become a chiropractor. Chiropractic and massage go together like peanut butter and jelly and through using these safe and healing modalities, he has witnessed some amazing improvements in his patients bodies. He has studied Shiatsu in Japan, Zen Trigger Point in Hawaii, and learned some Thai massage in Chiang Mai. After living and working as a chiropractor in Portland, Oregon for over a decade, he moved to Mesa, Arizona for his partner’s job opportunity and is now excited to begin another new chiropractic chapter in his bodywork story. He and his girlfriend are excited to explore the desert and learn more about their new home environment. He finds joy working with the human body and helping his patients feel and function better. “You don’t know how much better you can feel, until you feel that much better” using his style of deep tissue work with gentle adjustments, Dr. Josh is happy to assist and learn more from each new body he touches.
Abby Hafen NASM-CPT, PWR!
Abby grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah moving to Scottsdale AZ in 2001. Once moving to the desert she developed a love for hiking, mountain biking, and desert living. The snowy Utah winters didn’t fit quite right. She has always been interested in fitness and trying new exercise programs like spin class, CrossFit, and Muay Thai sparring with her dad. She knows the importance of keeping her body healthy and moving, but as she got older her body didn’t recover the same or as quickly as she would like. She realized her workouts needed to change, recovery time increased and her body needed new or different ways to help repair, keep moving, and maintain the lifestyle she enjoys. That meant having to research the best ways to help herself, whether it be a different approach to daily workout, active recovery workout days, self myofascial techniques or stretching. She knew she was not alone in the desire to stay healthy and move the way she wanted to. This motivated her to work towards becoming a Certified Personal Trainer so she could help others achieve their own fitness goals. Since becoming a trainer she has expanded her knowledge with certifications such as Stretching and Flexibility Coach (Assisted Stretching), Virtual Coaching Specialist, Cupping, and PWR!Moves Instructor Certification (Parkinson’s specific exercise program).
Therapies Abby offers:
- Assisted Stretching allows a certified practitioner with advanced training to move you through a range of motion in specific ways that are otherwise difficult to perform on our own. Slow gentle stretching, traction, and contract-relax-contract methods are all utilized in order to achieve a deeper stretch. Over time Abby will learn your body’s specific needs and help you address areas of concern, you won’t be bounced from one practitioner to another. Benefits include increased range of motion and flexibility, reduced muscle and joint pain, improved posture, and stress reduction.
- Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a practitioner puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
- The Basic 4 PWR!Moves are designed to each target a skill known to deteriorate in people with Parkinson disease, which often lead to loss of mobility and function. The PWR!Moves can be practiced in multiple positions, made progressively more physically and cognitively challenging, and be used differently to target each person’s unique symptoms individually. PWR!Moves help you mitigate symptoms and rebuild functionality, no matter how you incorporate them into your life.
Abby focuses on maintaining quality of life, participating in activities you enjoy, regaining the ability to participate, lower risk of falls, and improve cognitive function.
